I have to start this blog by saying goodbye to my beloved Grandparents Pompa and Granny.
Pompa lived to be the ripe old age of 91 and having bravely carried on for a whole year since my Nanny passed away decided it was his time to go. He was the kindest and nicest fellow you could possibly ask for as a Grandad and has left behind many wonderful memories. I can't help but chuckle when I think of a story my mum recalled. Later in life Pompa became a diabetic which meant sweet treats were very much out of the question, particularly as my Nanny would watch him like a hawk (he was partial to sweeties especially jelly babies!). As my Uncle David was working abroad Pompa offered to go over to keep an eye on his house while he was away and do any jobs that may have needed doing. This also gave him the perfect opportunity to indulge in a little chocolate due to the fact my Nanny was safely several streets away... unfortunately this little scheme was eventually discovered and needless to say Nanny was not best pleased!!! He passed away very quickly and peacefully and I can't help but think Nanny and Pompa are happy together again now.
I went back to England for the funural and although it was a sad occasion it was nice to catch up with all of the family again. While at home I spent a day with my Granny Hart, just drinking tea, chatting and looking at old photographs, it was a lovely day and when it came time to say goodbye I told her that I was getting a little bit fed up of coming home for funerals, so Granny please don't you go anywhere for a little while! After I had said this she turned around to my mum, chuckled to herself and said "you never know what us oldies are going to do!" Well a few days later while on holiday visiting family in Scotland (One of her favourite places) Granny sadly and peacefully passed away also. Nan was 90 years old and had a very eventful year, she enjoyed a great 90th birthday party, saw her oldest friend Ruby who had emigrated to Australia and had come back to England for one last trip and had seen all 3 of her grand children, even though two of us now live in North America. My granny also had quite the sweet tooth and my Dad would often relay stories to me of finding her favourite chocolate eclairs sweety rappers in many nooks and crannies throughout the house, especially when changing the sheets! with these two brilliant grandparents it is no wonder I developed such a sweet tooth myself, there really was no hope for me!
Granny is on the left! |
I would have loved to have gone home for Grans funeral as well but it was just a little to difficult to squeeze it in after everything that has happened this month, I am thinking of everybody today and you are all in my hearts, I am definitely there with you in spirit....
